Paihia Bike Hire
Are You Staying in Paihia or Russell and Looking for Something to do?
Staying in Paihia or Russell? Why not come to us in Kawakawa (a 15 minute drive from Paihia) and hire a mountain or e-bike and ride along the Twin Coast Cycle Trail?
Built over a railway line this trail is almost flat and ideal for those wanting a leisurely half day ride
Mullarkey Mountain & E-Bike Hire – Bay of Islands
Given the temporary closure of the trail between Opua and the SH10 crossing just outside Kawakawa, the closest place for bike hire is our office in central Kawakawa, which is a 15-minute drive from Paihia.
If you are staying in Russell, please take the car ferry to Opua, from there Kawakawa is also a 15-minute drive away.
We have electric e-bikes or conventional mountain bikes for hire. Please note that the e-bikes are heavily booked in summer, and it pays to check in advance to see that we have e-bikes available.
All our bikes are 2021 models which have been serviced in our Workshop after every hire.
Depending on which direction you cycle the trail, your journey will take in the following places of interest:
Kawakawa, often referred to as the “railway town” famous for the rail line running down the middle of the main street, and home of the world famous Hundertwasser Toilets.
From Kawakawa you then head to Kaikohe (31-kilometre ride) passing through pine forests and farms, taking in the beautiful suspension bridge at Tuhipa.
From Kawakawa the suspension bridge is a 12 kilometre ride, an ideal distance for groups looking for a leisurely half day ride.
The trail onward from Kaikohe takes you to Okaihau via the shores of Lake Omapre. Northland’s longest lake and an area of great importance in local Māori culture.
The final section of the trail from Okaihau to Horeke, sees cyclists riding through the valley alongside the Utakura River. This is arguably the most scenic part of the trail.
We operate a flexible transport and shuttle service including luggage transfer. We can transport you, your bikes/luggage, to and from any accessible point on the cycle trail.
Please call us on 0800 891340 to discuss with our team your plans for riding the trail. We are keen to help you have the best experience possible.
